On Wednesday I attended my first work party at
Heyshott escarpment. This winter project has been running for a month but due
to the wonderful end to the butterfly summer I had not felt able to assist till
now. This project is creating more ideal habitat for one of the U.K.’s most
endangered butterflies, the Duke of
Burgundy. This beautiful little creature requires sheltered areas
with plenty of suitable primulas, either primrose or cowslip, the larval
foodplant. The Murry
Downland Trust drives this project, assisted by advice from
Butterfly Conservation and some help from BC members.
On Thursday I checked out a
local park and found some interesting garden throwaway plants, three
Red Admirals and a Small White.
