The Arun at Warningcamp and Rewell Wood

Green-veined White
Julia arrived on Monday morning and after lunch we wandered along the River Arun at Warningcamp and finished up at The Rabbit for a drink. This was our first visit to this pub having seen it many times from the other side of the river on our walks. The outside seats by the river make this a very attractive venue and we vowed to have a meal here sometime. I took Julia to the station at midday Tuesday and later in the afternoon we had a walk in Rewell Woods. The undergrowth in the glade where I see many Pearl-bordered Fritillaries in the Spring was thick with growth, including lovely purple clumps of heather and buddleia flowers still showing on some bushes.

A walk along the beach

Yellow horned poppy Glaucium flavum
This afternoon we headed off along the beach towards Rustington as there was a report of a Clouded Yellow on the beach yesterday. I found the patch of valerian mentioned but of course the butterfly was long gone. No doubt he had stopped for refuelling after his channel crossing and headed north. It was interesting to see to see the variety of flowers growing in the shingle.
