Butterflies at Harting Down

Hottest day of the year so far, my watch said 82F/33C. I met Steve at Harting Down for a Duke of Burgundy survey today. We found two, so objective achieved. There were plenty of Green Hairstreaks around, especially on the sticky leaved sycamore insect to the ash by the bowl. At times there were pairs of them fighting for territory. I also saw a kestrel swooping along the down
Other species seen were Orange Tips, Large and Small Whites, Dingy and Grizzled Skippers, Brimstones, a Small Copper (above), a Small Tortoiseshell, Common Blues and a Speckled Yellow moth (below).
